THE VILLAGE OF ZMEEVO
The Village of Zmeevo is located in North-East Bulgaria and is part of Balchik Municipality - Dobrich District. It boasts a very good location as it is only 15 miles away from Balchik on the Black Sea Coast, probably, the most romantic Bulgarian town. The road to there is very good and smooth. Other nearby cities are Varna and Dobrich, at 40 miles and 14 miles respectively. The village is also located near the international road to Romania, which is fully repaired. The City of Bucharest and its International Airport Otopeni are not too far.
Zmeevo has all basic amenities for a normal living such as shops, a pub, a church, a post office, town hall, etc. Supermarkets, Hospitals, Schools and Banks you can find in Dobrich, only a few mins driving from there. Regular bus service connects Zmeevo with Balchik and Dobrich.
The village is situated near the Durankulak Lake. Durankulak Lake is 446.5 hectares. It is one of the best- preserved coastal wetlands in Bulgaria with international importance for the protection of over 260 endemic, rare and endangered species of plants and animals. BALCHIK & REGION
Balchik is situated in the north-east part of the Bulgarian Black Sea shore. It is a small seaside town which combines the romance of its steep streets with the beauty of the sea. For a long time it has been known as the White Town for the mainly white colour of its lime rocks. Balchik has a 21 centuries history and has preserved traces of many cultures. All that can be seen in the Historical Museum situated in the town centre.
The nearest big towns are Varna /24 miles/ and Dobrich /21 miles/. Albena, one of the biggest Bulgarian resorts is only 10 km away. There is regular bus transport to them. On the north /20 miles/ the furthest eastern point of Bulgaria - Cape Kaliakra juts out deep into the sea.
The greatest landmark of Balchik – The Palace – has remained from the period of the Romanian occupation. The Palace was the former summer residence of the Romanian Queen Maria Alexandrina Victoria De Edinburgh (1875 – 1938). The residence was constructed in 1924. The Botanical Garden – another great landmark of the town – is also situated within the borders of the residence.
The Monastery Ak Yazala Baba – St. Atanas is situated at a distance of 9 miles from Balchik, near the village of Obrochishte.
There are three modern Golf Courses in close proximity to Balchik. There are also other interesting places in the region – the village of Kranevo; the rock capital of Bulgaria – Town of Kavarna; as well as many camping sites. The reservation of the Kaliakra fortress is also near. Balchik and the region around it offer diverse accommodation, catering and entertainment options.

Sightseeing:
The Art Gallery of Dobrich is in the city center. It is a unique statute of culture, one of the 100th national touristic sights of Bulgaria. It was built in the beginning of XX century for a judicial-administrative purposes, it takes a key place in the city life.
Renaissance Hall is a museum moment in the building of the Art Gallery – Dobrich. In it exhibited is the collection “Icons from Dobrudzha”. It represents pieces of all of Dobrudzha painted by the masters of painting between XVII and XIX century. The icons from Dobrudzha are wonderful pieces of renaissance iconography full of light and life, part of the national iconic treasure of the country.
Paper Art - Solely in the gallery in Dobrich you can see the only in the country unique collection of paper art by artists of different countries. In interesting plastics, installations, collages and other forms of hand-made paper demonstrated are the rich capabilities of the material.
The Nature and Animals Protection Center is unique for Bulgaria as well as for Eastern Europe. In a natural habitat, in the zoo, raised are over 100 kinds of animals: deer, llamas, mouflon, bears, horses of Przewalski, goats, pheasants, buffalos, water and exotic birds.
The Ethnographic House was built in 1860 by a rich trader of wheat. It represents a typical for the renaissance age architectural monument. A century later the house is restored and turned into a museum representing the life and livelihood of the population of Dobrudzha of the end of XIX and the beginning of XX century.
Visitors of the museum have the opportunity to meet and see the traditional clothing of the local people, the house (kitchen), the bedroom and the basement where exhibited are original dishes for preparing and preservation of conserved food and agricultural tools and items related to the household work. On the upper floor, in the guestroom recreated is the atmosphere of the home of a rich trader, emigrated from Kotel. In the rest of the rooms restored are the previous looks of the house, the closet as well as the cozy porch.
Architectural–Ethnographic Complex "The Old Dobrich" - Established in the city center of the contemporary town, on the place of the Odun Charshiya, the ethnographic museum “The Old Dobrich” preserves and represents the traditional Dobrudzha crafts from the end of XIX and the first half of XX century. In the renovated old city charshiya craftsmen continue a tradition from many centuries. Using old hand technologies and with original instruments, in more than 30 workshops created are traditional items of pottery, blacksmith, embroidery, weaving, cooperage, homespun, goldsmith and others. In the center of the complex restored is the old clock tower built in XVIII century – a symbol of the Bulgarian renaissance sprit of the town.
The City Park St. George or the city garden as known among people of Dobrich is the most visited place in Dobrich by its citizens and guests. Its area is 430 dca and is divided into several sectors – “The Old Garden”, Children’s sector – a zone for games and fun, park lakes zone, zone of rock terrace gardens, sports zone etc.
In 1999 the old garden of the city park is announced to be a monument of culture and garden park art.
The museum of new and newest history is located in the building of the old casino in the town of Dobrich. It collects evidence of the history of Dobrudzha of 1878 up to today.
Temple “St. George” - In the style of Kolyo Ficheto is the entire church, the arches of the two faCades and the original stone plastics on the external walls of the building. It has a rich and complex iconostasis.
The largest Han Asparuh Monument - The architectural and sculptural memorial of Han Asparuh is the largest monument dedicated to the founder of Bulgaria.
Dobrich is racing along the road to economic prosperity and welfare.
