Cheven is located in the National Park. The Natural Park of Rusenski Lom is one of the ten nature parks of Bulgaria. It is situated along the canyon type valley of Rusenski Lom River - the last right feeder of the Danube. The park was made a protected area in 1970 and embraces a territory of 3408 hectares. The area is recognized as an interesting site of high aesthetic value preserving beautiful riverside terraces, meanders, high vertical rocks, areas of rich variety of species, caves, rock formations and historical monuments of national and international significance.
![]() The Archeological Reserve Medieval Town of Cherven (pics up and down) is situated on a high hill in the canyon of the Cherni Lom river in the village of Cherven. The ruins of the big Byzantine fortresses from the VI century are preserved. The small settlement continued its development and during the period of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom it became the town of Cherven.....a leading military, administrative, economic, religious and cultural center in the country. ![]() ![]() Archeological excavations reveal the ruins of a number of dwellings, the foundations of 13 churches, administrative buildings, a feudal castle within the borders of the town, two unique water pumping facilities with vaulted staircases, fortifications, the two gates, the defensive tower and fortified walls.

The Ivanovo Municipality is located in North-Central Bulgaria in Ruse District. Part of the valley was proclaimed a Natural Park. The park is located 20 km to the south-west from Ruse. It was created in 1970 with the purpose of preserving the canyons of the three rivers, their flora, fauna and historical landmarks. ** Natural landmark “Orlova Chuka” Cave - located on the left shore of the Cherni Lom river.
