THE VILLAGE OF GORNO ABLANOVO

Gorno Ablanovo is a village in northern Bulgaria - it is located in the municipality of Borovo - district of Ruse.

The village is in the eastern part of the Danubian plain 185 meters above sea level. It's about 6 miles from the Danube river and the Yantra river.

The village is 13 miles from the town of Borovo and 17 miles from the town of Byala and only 27 miles from the city of Ruse.

The village is very well developed with electricity, water and communication equipment.

The population is approximately 926 people.

In Gorno Ablanovo there is a town hall, a post office, a health service, an elementary school, a church and a newly built community centre with a library.

It is rich in subsoil water and many of the houses have wells. There are several stone fountains.

The coastal city of Varna with its famous beach resorts and the international airport is 140 miles away.

The village is located approximately 178 miles from the capital city Sofia & the International Sofia airport and about 75 miles from the city of Bucharest (RO) and the International airport "Otopeni".

MUNICIPALITY OF BOROVO

The municipality of Borovo is situated at the beginning of the northeastern part of the Danube Plain. The west and south border the municipalities of Tsenovo and Byala, and to the northeast and east the municipalities of Ivanovo and Dve Mogili. To the north are the banks of the Danube.

In administrative terms, the municipality is part of the district of Ruse. The municipal centre Borovo is 26 miles southwest of the regional centre Ruse.

The municipality of Borovo consists of seven Villages – the town of Borovo which is a municipal centre and six other villages. The village of Obretenik, the village of Ekzarh Yosif, the village of Batin, the village of Gorno Ablanovo, the village of Brestovitsa and the village of Volovo.

The municipality has three municipal schools and one kindergarten.

Tourism and natural landmarks:

One of the most popular tourist sites in the municipality of Borovo is the “Tomb of a Tantrian aristocrat from IV century BC”. It is located in the central part of the town of Borovo. The Thracian tomb was discovered on Borov land in the early 90s (according to the historical museum in Ruse there are only three such tombs on the Balkan Peninsula);

The largest and most significant part of the cultural and historical heritage of the municipality of Borovo is the Borovo treasure. The Thracian silver treasure from Borovo is in the national museum of history in Sofia and is the most famous monument of culture discovered during archaeological excavations on the territory of the municipality. A copy of it can be seen at the Ruse historical museum;

The church of “St. Ivan Rilski” in the village of Brestovitsa was declared a monument of culture of national importance. There are churches in the villages of Ekzarh Yosif, Gorno Ablanovo and Batin built in the middle of the 19th century;

The panoramic bank of the Danube near Batin has opportunities for recreation and sport fishing. Batin island is also ideal for fishing;

DISTRICT OF RUSE

Ruse is the largest Bulgarian river port on the Danube river serving an important part of the international trade of the country.

Also called "The elegant Mini-Vienna" Ruse is the 5th largest city in Bulgaria and one of the most beautiful because of its unique architecture.

Ruse occupies a significant place in the Bulgarian national history and has a rich cultural-historical heritage — a potential needed for the development of cultural tourism. Ruse has a very rich, millennial history.

The nature around the city of Ruse

** Natural park “Rusenski Lom”.The Rusenski Lom river valley along with the tributaries Beli (White) Malki (Little) and Cherni (Black) Lom is a unique world with amazing nature. Part of the valley was proclaimed a Natural park. The park is located about 20 km to the southwest of Ruse. It was created in 1970 with the purpose of preserving the canyons of the three rivers and historical landmarks. The rivers have created incredibly beautiful gorges in the limestone rock foundation.

** Natural landmark “Orlova Chuka” cave located on the left shore of the Cherni Lom river is the 2nd longest cave in Bulgaria (13 438 m in length), representing a complex labyrinth of tunnels.

** Lipnik Forest park: the park is a site for recreation, sports, tourism and sunbathing 12 km east of Ruse. There are country houses, restaurants, artificial lakes, a hotel, a small zoo, a sports base and a camping site.

The villages in the region attract tourists with the picturesque nature, the rock landscape and the breathtaking views and plenty of opportunities for hiking and riding. The surrounding area has different ways to spend your free time and enjoy the beauty of the region.

The closest ski resort to Ruse is in "Uzana" (pics below) the geographic centre of Bulgaria about 28 miles from Veliko Tarnovo. There are several hotels in the resort which provide tourism opportunities and good conditions for relaxing in the quiet and calm atmosphere of the mountain throughout the year. The surrounding sites of Uzana are suitable for rock climbing. There are possibilities for cultural tourism in the region. In the nearby open-air "Ethnographic museum Etara" people learn more about Bulgarian crafts. The "Sokolski Monastery" is situated a few miles from Uzana.
