THE VILLAGE OF KRUSHOVENE

Krushovene is a village in north Bulgaria situated in the Municipality of Dolna Mitropoliya -  District of Pleven.

19 miles north is the town of Dolna Mitropoliya and 13 miles north is the Town of Trastenik. The village is 25 miles from the City of Pleven.

The village of Krushovene is located on the left bank of the Iskar River and close to the Danube.

The population of the village is around 1019 people.

The village is well maintained. There is a town hall, a church, a primary school, a kindergarten,  a community centre, shops and restaurants. Two GPs can be found in the village. The nearest high school is in the town of Trastenik where you will find a dentist and a pharmacy. Specialized medical assistance is available in the hospitals of Dolna Mitropoliya and Pleven.

There is a small stadium and football club named "Vihar". Grass hockey teams from the local school play there.

Tourism and landmarks

 

Krushovene has a protected area called "Genchov orman"  since 1962 and a century old oak forest close to the old riverbed of the Iskar river. 

The proximity to the rivers Iskar and Danube make the area perfect for fishing and eco tourism.

The local cultural and archaeological heritage in the area arises from the ancient town of "Ulpia Eskus" near the village of Gigen. This has been declared a cultural monument of national significance. The remains from Roman and Byzantium cities are found there.

MUNICIPALITY OF DOLNA MITROPOLIYA & REGION

Dolna Mitropoliya  is one of the largest towns of the Pleven District and the administrative centre of the municipality of Dolna Mitropoliya. The area covers part of the rivers Danube - Iskar and the Vit.

The Municipality of Dolna Mitropolia has 16 settlements – 2 towns and 14 villages and is located  7 miles from the City of Pleven.

  The population of the municipality of Dolna Mitropoliya is approximately 20 900 people.

The main landmarks in the municipality are: the settlements of Selishte, Ulpia Eskus,  Kailaka zoo and the fortress Storgozia

The Ulpia Eskus is an ancient Roman city is located to the east of the village of Baikal. The ancient city is well researched. Another attraction for tourists is the Lapidarium museum close to the ancient city.

The Kailaka zoo is near to Pleven. The zoo is in the protected area with the animals living in natural caves. 

The Fortress Storgozia is located in the Kailaka Park in the town of Pleven. The ancient settlement originates from the Roman empire and was built on the site of an earlier Thracian settlement. The archeological finds from Storgozia and the necropolis such as ceramics, weapons and coins testify to the fact that the settlement lasted until the end of the 6th century.

PLEVEN & REGION

Pleven is well known as a major economic centre of the Bulgarian northwest and central north. Pleven is the 3rd largest city of northern Bulgaria after Varna and Ruse. Located in the northern part of the country this is the administrative centre of the Pleven district and the Municipality.

Pleven is in an agricultural region in the very heart of the Danubian Plain the historical region of Moesia and surrounded by low limestone hills - the Pleven Heights. The city's central location in northern Bulgaria defines its importance as a big administrative, economic, political, cultural and transport centre. Pleven is 100 miles from the capital City of Sofia and approximately 195 miles west of the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. 

The Pleven Regional Historical museum is a very popular tourist attraction and the Svetlin Rusev Donative Exhibition situated in the former public baths, exhibits works by Bulgarian artists and well noted western european art figures like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and Renato Guttuso. The Ivan Radoev Dramatic Theatre is the centre of theatrical life in Pleven.

Pleven is regarded as an important centre of sports in Bulgaria. The sports school in Pleven is considered to be one of the most prominent in the country. Pleven is also famous for the Kaylaka (where the ruins of the Storgosia fortification are found) and the Skobelev parks. The later is home to the Pleven panorama and is situated on the original location of the battle of the Russo-Turkish war.

The District of Pleven is crossed by the rivers Iskar, Vit and Osam.
