The Treasure of Valchitran was discovered on 28 December 1924 by two brothers who were working in their
vineyard near the village of Valchitran. This is the largest Thracian gold treasure discovered in Bulgaria and one of the most valuable possessions of the National Archaeological museum in Sofia.

MUNICIPALITY OF PORDIM & REGION
The municipality of Pordim is situated in the north western area of Bulgaria.
The municipality is in the south-eastern part of the district of Pleven and is the smallest of the
11 municipalities in the district.

Pleven is well known as a major economic centre of the Bulgarian
northwest and central north and the 3rd largest city of north Bulgaria after Varna and Ruse.
Located in the northern part of the country this is the administrative centre of the Pleven district and municipality.
Pleven is in an agricultural region in the very heart of the Danubian Plain the historical region
of Moesia surrounded by low limestone hills - the Pleven Heights. The city's central location in northern Bulgaria
defines its importance as an administrative, economic, political, cultural and transport centre. Pleven is
100 miles from the capital City of Sofia and approximately 195 miles west of the
Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. The River Vit flows close to the
town and the tiny Tuchenitsa River crosses it.
The Pleven Regional Historical museum is a very popular tourist attraction. The Svetlin Rusev
Donative Exhibition situated in the former public baths exhibits works by Bulgarian artists and
western european art figures including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Renato Guttuso. The Ivan Radoev
Dramatic Theatre is the centre of theatrical life in Pleven.
Pleven is an important centre of sports in Bulgaria. The sports school in Pleven is
one of the most prominent in the country. Pleven is also famous for the Kaylaka (where the ruins of the
Storgosia fortification are found) and the Skobelev parks. The later is home to the Pleven panorama and is
situated on the original location of the battle of the Russo-Turkish war.
