The Natural Park of Rusenski Lom is one of the ten nature parks of Bulgaria. It is situated along the canyon type valley of Rusenski Lom River - the last right feeder of the Danube. The park was made a protected area in 1970 and embraces a territory of 3408 hectares and is recognized as an interesting and precious site of high aesthetic value preserving beautiful riverside terraces, meanders, high vertical rocks, areas of rich variety of species, caves, rock formations, historical monuments of national and international significance. It satisfies recreation needs and gives an opportunity for scientific and exploration activities.

![]() The Archeological Reserve Medieval Town of Cherven (pics up and down) is situated on a high hill in the canyon of the Cherni Lom river in the village of Cherven. The ruins of a big Byzantine fortresses from the VI century are preserved. The small settlement continued its development and during the period of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom it became the town of Cherven, one of the leading military, administrative, economic, religious and cultural centers in the country. ![]() ![]() Archeological excavations reveal the ruins of a big number of dwellings, foundations of 13 churches, administrative buildings, a feudal castle within the borders of the town, fortifications, the two gates, the defensive tower, fortified walls etc.

The Ivanovo Municipality is located in North-Central Bulgaria in Ruse District. The Municipality consists of 13 villages with municipal center in the Village of Ivanovo, located at a distance of 20 km southwest from Ruse city. The main road E85 crosses the area from south to north, connecting the province centre of Ruse with the cities of Veliko Turnovo and respectively Pleven and Sofia.
Archeological reserves in the region are the Rock Monastery near Ivanovo village and the Medieval town of Cherven.
Ivanovo Rock-hewn Churches are under UNESCO protection. They are a group of monolithic churches, chapels and monasteries made out of solid rock and completely different from other monastery complexes in Bulgaria, located near the Village of Ivanovo, on the high rocky banks of the Rusenski Lom 32m above the river. Part of the valley was proclaimed a Natural Park. The park is located about 20 km to the south-west from Ruse. It was created in 1970 with the purpose of preserving the canyons of the three rivers, their flora, fauna and historical landmarks. ** Natural landmark “Orlova Chuka” Cave - is located on the left shore of the Cherni Lom river. It's the 2nd longest cave in Bulgaria (13 438 m in length) representing a complex labyrinth of interweaving galleries, tunnels, abysses with big and small halls. ![]() ![]() ![]() ** Lipnik Forest Park: the park is a big site for recreation, sports, tourism, sunbathing and all other kinds of entertainment situated 12 km east of Ruse.
