THE VILLAGE OF STAVERTSI
Stavertsi is a village in North Bulgaria. It is situated in municipality of Dolna Mitropoliya,
district of Pleven.
It is 18 miles northwest of town of Dolna Mitropoliya, 15 miles in the same direction from the town of Trastenik
and 25 miles of City of Pleven. The neighbouring village of Bregare is 3 miles northeast and the
village of Orehovitsa is 7 miles east. The capital Sofia is 105 miles southwest.
Bus transportation connects the village to the other settlements.
The village of Stavertsi is located in the central part of the Danube Plain
on the left bank of Iskar river. The climate in the area is temperate and is characterized by
hot summers.
The permanent population is about 1778 people.
The village is well maintained. There is a functioning town hall, church, community centre, primary school,
kindergarten, shops, restaurants and clubs of interest. There is a stadium plus a GP and a dentist in the village. The nearest hospital is situated in the town of Iskar.
TOURISM AND LANDMARKS
The local people are mainly employed in farming and stock breeding. They look after horses and sheep from
the "Chervenoglava plevenska" breed. There are two plants - for production of sand, gravel and cement
and the other produces flour and grain.
The church "St Paraskeva" is constructed in 1868 and was declared a cultural monument.
In the Kaleto area near the Iskar river are beautiful stoned trees and
stems which are protected.
The proximity to the river offers great opportunities for fishing and walks.
Just twenty kilometers away near the village of Gigen is situated the ancient
village Oescus which attracts tourists.
The village is located approximately 120miles away to the City of Bucharest (RO) and
its International Airport "Otopeni", and 110miles away to the City of Sofia and its International
Airport.
The village is only about 75miles to the historical and touristic City of Veliko Turnovo.

Dolna Mitropolia is a town in Northern Bulgaria. Administrative center of Dolna Mitropolia Municipality in Pleven District. It is located about 6 miles from the City of Pleven.
Not far from the Town of Dolna Mitropoliya are the the valleys of the rivers Iskar and Vit. The region has an ancient history dating back to the First Bulgarian Kingdom and the region has the remains of an ancient Roman city.
The places to visit here are the church "St. Dimitar" and the Museum of Aviation. The region has four dams - three of them are organized for sport fishing. In the Town of Dolna Mitropoliya there is an Aviation Faculty, a confectionery plant, a plant for sunflower oil and fodder yeast refinement. PLEVEN & REGION
Pleven is the 7th biggest city in Bulgaria. Well known as a major economic centre of the Bulgarian Northwest and Central North and the 3rd largest city of Northern Bulgaria after Varna and Ruse. Located in the northern part of the country it is the administrative centre of Pleven District and part of the Pleven Municipality.
Pleven is located in an agricultural region in the very heart of the Danubian Plain, the historical region of Moesia, surrounded by low limestone hills, the Pleven Heights. The city's central location in Northern Bulgaria defines its importance as a big administrative, economic, political, cultural and transport center. Pleven is located about 100 miles away from the capital City of Sofia, approximately 195 miles west of the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast and about 30 miles south of the Danube River. The River Vit flows near the town and the tiny Tuchenitsa River crosses it.

The later is home to the Pleven Panorama and is situated on the original location of the battle during the Russo-Turkish War.
The District of Pleven is crossed from south to north by the Rivers Iskar, Vit and Osam (in west-east order); the river valleys are separated by limestone plateaus.
