THE VILLAGE OF KARAMANOVO
Karamanovo is a village in northern Bulgaria located in municipality of Tsenovo in the district of Rousse.
The property is 6 miles from the village of Tsenovo, 38 miles from the city of Ruse, 12 miles from
the town of Svishtov, 18 miles from the town of Byala and 6 miles south of the Danube river.
The population of the village is about 875 people.
The village has its own primary school – “Hristo Botev” established in 1856 and was awarded the “Kiril and Metodiy” Order – first degree. The school has 65 pupils.
The “Kiril and Metodiy” Order – first degree was awarded to the community centre “Svetlina-1905” village of Karamanovo too.
The village also has a kindergarten “Radost” which opened in 1983.
The village has a football club with the nickname of the great Bulgarian revolutionary Vasil Ivanov Kunchev-Levski!
The club was founded in 1946 and is a regular participant in the Regional Football Group.
The church in the village of Karamanovo was built in the middle of the 19th century by a group of masters of Kolyu Ficheto immediately after the completion of the bridge in the town of Byala. Viewed from above the church looks like a cross.
There is archaeological heritage in the area - tombstones in Latin were found only 1 mile north of the village of Karamanovo.
The village has a town hall, post office and some shops. There is a GP and dentist and the nearest hospital is in the town of Svishtov.
There are many natural landmarks, caves, rock formations, historical monuments in the area - an example being the
Kolyu Ficheto bridge over the Yantra river near the town of Byala;
There are numerous monuments in the town of Svishtov including the “100th Anniversary of the Liberation”, the Monument of the Donors, and the Monument Area and the “Rusenski Lom” nature park.

MUNICIPALITY OF TSENOVO
The municipality of Tsenovo is located in northern Bulgaria and is one of the municipalities of the district of Ruse.
The borders are as follows: to the east the municipality of Borovo; to the south the municipality of Byala; to the southwest the municipality of Polski Trambesh district of Veliko Tarnovo; to the west the municipality of Svishtov district of Veliko Tarnovo and to the north the Republic of Romania.
The municipality has 9 settlements with a total population of 5 670 people.
The settlements are the villages: Tsenovo (municipal centre), Beltsov, Belyanovo, Dzhulyunitsa, Dolna Studena, Karamanovo, Krivina, Novgrad and Piperkovo.
The main roads are to Ruse, Byala and Svishtov. The municipal centre is about 30 miles from the city of Ruse 20 miles from the town of Svishtov 8 miles from the town of Byala and 163 miles from the capital city Sofia.
The municipality has a rich archaeological heritage. In the village of Krivina in the 4th century the castle “Jatrus” was built –
one of the significant Roman military centres along the Lower Danube. The open archaeological excavations are the remains of a
Roman and early Byzantine city destroyed by the Avars at the beginning of the 7th century. On the ruins from the 7th – 8th century
there is a Bulgarian settlement protected by a massive stone fence with towers built outwards. In 1958 the eastern gate, public and private buildings, two old Christian basilicas were discovered. Iron swords, ceramics, X-century gold coins and labour tools were found. One mile north of the village of Belyanovo, carved in the rocky right bank of the Yantra river, a rock church with frescoes was discovered. Only one mile to the west and southwest of the village of Novgrad various archaeological finds were discovered: stone satin phases, chrome,
tools and agricultural tools of stone, flint, bone, bronze and iron. In the vicinity of Tsenovo, a treasure of gold and silver crockery, silver bracelets and 1200 coins was found in the Guttula locality.
The main cultural and natural landmarks in the municipality are the:
Ethnographic museum in the village of Novgrad consisting of 9 rooms revealing the lifestyle and the culture of the region. There are archaeological finds from BC; exhibits related to the detachment of Hadji Dimitar and Stefan Karadja; crafts made by people from the past and education and life before democratic change;
Bust monument of Dimitar Apostolov Tsenov in the village of Tsenovo;
Lenin Monument in the village of Novgrad – a preserved monument of Lenin;
A rope bridge over the Yantra rver built in 1968.This is the longest rope bridge in northern Bulgaria over the Yantra river connecting the villages of Novgrad and Belianovo;
The Iron Bridge over the Yantra river is less than 1 mile east of the village of Tsenovo. The bridge is 85 metres long and 3 metres wide;
Orthodox Cross “Monument Symbol” is located in the immediate vicinity of the village of Tsenovo southeast of the “Bog Bair” area. The monument is in the form of an orthodox cross, 18 metres high. It is illuminated at night and symbolizes the faith of the people.
Historical reserve Tekir Dere is located near the town of Svishtov about 14 miles from Tsenovo.

It was created in 1970 with the purpose of preserving the canyons of the three rivers and historical landmarks.
