THE VILLAGE OF DRENOV

Drenov is a village in northern Bulgaria located in the district of Lovech.

The village of Drenov was founded in the 18th century and is located in a hilly area in the valley near the Devetashko karst plateau where the Danube plain ends.

The village is 15 miles from the city of Lovech and 20 miles from the city of Pleven.

Drenov borders the villages of Doyrentsi, Alexandrovo, Vladinya and Valchitran.

The nearby Aleksandrovo dam is ideal for fishing and the Osam river is only a few miles from the village.

The population in the village is approximately 345 people.

Many years ago the foundations of stone buildings were discovered in the vicinity of the village. Many ancient coins from theThracian and Roman times were found during the excavation.

LOVECH & REGION

Lovech is located on the border between the Danube plain and the northern foothills of the Balkans and covers the river terraces of the famous Osam river. Lovech is situated about 105 miles to the north-east of Sofia / 21 miles north of Troyan / 53 miles to the west of Veliko Tarnovo and 40 miles to the north-west of Gabrovo.

Part of Lovech is known as the Varosha Quarter. The Varosha architecture historical reserve is located in the old quarter of the town situated along the bank of the Osam river. Another place of interest is the old covered bridge in the centre of the town - a beautiful architecture bridge with covered shops and stores.

In terms of natural landmarks Lovech has much to offer. The Stratesh park and the Bash Bounar park are wonderful places for recreation and relaxing. There are many caves to explore on the rocky banks of the Osam river. A historical place of interest in the region is “Kukrinsko Hanche” museum located in the nearby village of Kukrina. The village of Oreshak famous for the “crafts and applied arts” national fair displays a variety of art crafts from the region. Tasting of the famous Troyan plum brandy (rakiya) is enjoyed here.

There is a wide choice of good restaurants, pizza and fast food restaurants, cafes and bars in Lovech. Tourists try the traditional local specialties and of course taste the famous Lovech plums brandy and wines made in the region.
